Riding The Wave of Life
We’ve all very likely heard “go with the flow” or “if it’s meant to be it will be” at some point or another. It’s interesting because there’s so much truth in its simplicity and message that it applies to many things throughout life.
Whether it be in business, relationships, mental clarity, motivation and or in general the pursuit of anything. Forcing things to happen tends to disrupt this “pattern” of life.
And not so much that it’s a pattern but almost some sort of law. Much like there are laws for science and mathematics, it’s as if it’s a law for reality. Something intertwined with psychology, human behavior and the way they all come together to create a flow.
It’s like a flag waving in the wind. Theres a natural, smooth and calming rhythm to it all. But crank up the wind or slow it down and it’s whipping around violently or getting wrapped up within itself and looped around the pole.
Life and the pursuit of a goal can be achieved easily by identifying the natural pattern that leads to the desired destination. One has to be observant of the natural patterns along the path. The ups, downs, setbacks and difficulty. And then understand when and how to pull back, lean it or let a wave pass.
Much like a surfer can visually see the waves while waiting for the perfect one, people must be able to do the same with their pursuits. However, it’s far more challenging because waves are visual and give clues that we don’t have the luxury of having during non ocean activities.
Not everyone can get a feel for the tension in the air, the state of the crowd or pulse of demand. But, that’s what it takes to be successful in the pursuit of a goal.
It’s like riding the wave of your desired pursuit. Being able to know when to advance, when to slow down and how to ride the wave through it all.
There are natural rhythms everywhere and those tuned into the rhythms of their profession with the passion and understanding to listen to the feedback will be successful..
Blindly blasting through without listening to feedback is a setup for failure. Because any advancement gained creates a false narrative in our minds. We begin to tell ourselves that simply because we desired it to happen, it did. When in reality we very likely got lucky and rode the right wave at the right time with the right effort.
And interestingly enough it’s repeatable. Just not at the frequency we think.
Learning to ride the wave and understanding its dynamics will make the journey more enjoyable, less forced and far less stressful.
